liteSilver Template Installed [dial-up friendly].

You guys have all been browsing WTATA using a template called subSilver. phpBB veterans will know it as the most common phpBB template in use. It is also the one most commonly modified.

Today I cloned and edited it. The new version is called liteSilver; namely because most the graphics have been cut out of it. I did this to decrease page load times.

To check it out, click on your Profile button up top and change your board style from subSilver to liteSilver.

If you don't like it, you can always change it back.

In liteSilver you won't see the WTATA logo, the "four heads," user avatars, user flags and a few other things.

It's not [yet] perfect. For instance, you can't click on their AIM icon to send them an IM. Or click on their name or whatever to easily send them a PM.

The only page loading time complaints I could've had for this forum would be related to the size of the avatars of posted pictures. The button graphics are small enough that I don't think they matter much.

I like the fact that the top logo and the four heads are taken out but I don't see the updated posts and stuff.

By updated posts do you mean the icon of the piece of paper that is either white (no new posts) or orange (new posts)? If so, yes that is gone.

But I don't know I have to stay on the same page and put everything in other tabs to see the new/updated posts or else it will be refreshed and show me that they weren't updated and I've already read. Is it just me or is this a forum default?

Yeah that's sound right; that's how I do it.

Here's exactly how I do it:

Start | Run | b (that's right, just the letter b*) <press Enter>

Brings up the newposts page.

Control+Shift+mouse click on the updated threads I want to read. The control+shift forces them to open minimized.

After I have all the ones open that I want to read I then close the newposts page. I then individually browse each thread in its own window.

To each their own. YMMV.

*Note: "b" is actually b.bat, a one-line batch file that I wrote to open the newposts page. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, but are interested PM me and I'll set you up.

I worked in the template today for liteSilver. It looks much better and has several improvements for thread viewing. Check it out NOW.

It's looking great, and it will do wonders for my my other internet connection, which is hugely restricted, and terribly slow.
I like keeping it on normal when I'm on my regular PC.
Would there be any objection on creating a double account for working on the other connection?

I just wanted to bump this thread. Only 51 people are currently using the faster liteSilver template and none of those people I recognize as frequent WTATA'ers. I worked hard on it! For you! Yes, you! *sob*

If you hit this site often (daily or multidaily) and you think the site bogs down (because it really does), try liteSilver by going up to your profile. Its option is near the bottom of the Profile page. I think you'll be pleased.

Then again, if you think the speed is fine, don't worry about it.

Just a thoughtsy thought.
